True Blood: Season 4 "The Blood is Back" Promo (HBO)
The use of TV on the Radio for this promo easily justifies inclusion on this here blog. "True Blood" also has great music truth be told. Not as good as "Treme," but good nonetheless.
U2 Moment of Surrender (Clarence Clemons tribute)
America is a little poorer today. Rest in peace Big Man.

Fitz & The Tantrums: LIVE [First Fridays (at Natural History Museum)] - ...
After 90's snoozefest Blues Traveler last week (thank God Cults were here that night), Thursday in the Square goes indie again this week with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Fitz and The Tantrums. I didn't get to Grace's show at the Town Ballroom last year so I'm looking forward to that, and to seeing the Bryan Ferry meets Style Council song stylings of Fitz and The Tantrums. You throw in some Lloyd's tacos and you got yourselves a party.
Cults, "You Know What I Mean" (live)
I would've really liked to post some YouTube videos from Thursday night's Cults show but there ain't any. I know it's disappointing but what can you do? Instead I give you this: visual and audio proof that Madeline Follin and Cults is the real deal and not some studio confabulated plastic. Enjoy.

What Now?
I probably should have started off this blog with a declaration of intent and purpose, but because I was still buzzing at a high level over Cults at Babeville all I could muster was some babbling about Cults. Fair warning: that will happen every now and again. But today I have a little more perspective, and can now say that this blog will in no way be a comprehensive review of what's going on in Buffalo or the larger world of music. I won't be getting to every "cool" show in town (although I do try to get to the shows that I have to get to), and I'm not going to be trolling the growing Buffalo scene to check in on every band that starts up in this fine city. I have a job. I work most mornings. And I like sleep. But I read NME, Fader, and Pitchfork, and assiduously keep on eye on who's playing Buffalo (and who should be playing Buffalo), and this blog is going to be focused on that, the bands from Buffalo that I like (Bird Day, Love Scenes, Son of the Sun), and my own ludicrous (and ever expanding) cd collection.
OK. I am glad that's out of the way.

Cults Made Me Do It!
To be honest, I've been mulling over starting up a music oriented blog for a while now, but it crystallized for me tonight in the basement Ninth Ward club at Babeville in the minutes after the headlining set by Cults. It just seemed like the thing to do.
But now it's done, and I am going to bed. Like I said on Twitter, Cults comprehensively lived up to their hype by brilliantly recreating cuts from their brilliant debut album thanks in no small part to the staggering chops and stage presence of lead vocalist/front woman Madeline Follin. They really burned the place down, and I when Cults are huge (and bypass Buffalo) I will remember this intimate show at Babeville and be damned glad that I was there.
